Authaeretis sp. 2

Taxonomy

Authaeretis sp. 2 a single damaged specimen #5085 from Sabah (PHS) in the Schulze Coll. as ‘Syllete sp. 8 [nr. textalis]’.

Description

The purplish brown FW has a white square discocellular spot with darker marks on either side. Both wings have pale postmedian lines which are indistinct with pale patches anteriorly to the coronet mark on the FW. Schulze (2000) taxon #955. Authaeretis sp. 1 is similar but lacks the white band on its abdomen tip. See Protonoceras capitalis Fabricius, P. dolopsalis Walker and Protonoceros sp. 1 which differ in the shape and smoothness of the FW post median line. Some Herpetogramma spp. such as H. pseudovialis Hampson and H. luctuosalis (Guenée) are similar and may be taxonomically misplaced. Botys [Syllepte] ovialis Walker, 1859: 636 (confined to Africa?) is also very similar. See Coptobasis textalis.
