Taxonomy

The holotype of Chrysothyridia triangulifera Munroe, 1967: 1107 from the Philippines (Luzon) is in the US National Museum, paratypes in the Canadian Nat. Coll. (Type No. 9223).

Description

Like C. invertalis it has two large fenestrae on FW and a scatter of smaller ones on the HW It is distinguishable by the preapical costal patch being broadly triangular but that has a distinct ‘notch on its proximal edge (Munroe, 1967: 1106, figs 1-2 ). Occasionally there is a violet sheen near the wing margins. US is cream shading to brown to the margins. Male antennae have group of curled scales close to the base which are strongly developed in C. invertalis. This sp. has much more pronounced sexual modifications of the legs. Note the long black anal hair pencils of the male. Females have larger fenestrae on HW and a pale upperside to abdomen. Said to be best distinguished from C. invertalis Snellen (1876 [1877b]) by genitalia. (RTS 184-185) who figured the sp. Munroe (1967, Figs 5 & 6, 6& 7.), illustrates the male and female genitalia In some specimens the white central patch is narrower than the type illustrated by Munroe and they may not be conspecific See Chrysothyridia sp. 1 & sp. 2.
