Cirrhochrista annulifera Hampson
- Family: Crambidae
- Subfamily: Spilomelinae
- Tribe: Margaroniini
- Genus: Cirrhochrista
- Distribution: Sri Lanka, India, Sabah, Indonesia (Irian Jaya, Sulawesi), PNG.
- Habitat: Lowland primary forest and disturbed forest <650m
- Wing Length: 7mm
Taxonomy
The male holotype of Cirrhochrista annulifera Hampson, 1919f: 323 is from the Irian Jaya (D'entrecasteaux Is., Goodenough Is.). It was long considered as a junior syn. of C. figuratalis (Walker, [1866] 1865: 1369) but Shaffer 1968 (LepIndex, Globiz) considered both good spp..
Description
Like most Cirrhochrista spp. the wings are largely shining white. The FW margins are ochreous with darker brown subtermenally. As is typical of the genus the FW has three ochreous and brown fasciae; basal, median and subapical which are widest at the costa. In this sp. the median fascia forms a large circular mark towards the distal margin. The HW are shining white with brown subtermenally. In Cirrhochrista figuratalis the circular mark near the tornus is much smaller.
Life History
A sp. close to Palpita annulifer [sic] was reported as being more common in less disturbed sites in the Kinabalu N.P. by Fiedler & Schulze (2004).
