Taxonomy
The holotype of Pleonectoides sericialis Hampson, 1896: 141 is from India (Assam). ms comb. n. to Clupeosoma Snellen 1880 (Shaffer 1974, LepIndex).
Clupeosoma Snellen 1880: 203, exhibits sexual dimorphism with smaller males often with large tufts of hair scales on the FW.
Description
A purplish sp. with a broad, slightly darker, submarginal band on both wings. The margin of both wings in the female is a orange with tiny neural spots. The orange margin is confined to the anterior part of the HW. The body is brownish purple with pale intersegmental abdominal bands. The males are more obscurely marked a dark patch of scent scales in the FW cell being the only distinctive wing marking of the males. Clupeosoma glaucinalis is very similar but those females have a more distinct dark submarginal band and a pale edge to that band. Schulze (2000) taxon #650A (male) & #650B (female). The association of male and female is not confirmed in this case.
