Taxonomy
Coptobasis sp. 3. An unnamed specimen found in a series of C. mesospectralis Hampson 1897 in the B.M.N.H..
Cydalima violalis Hering 1901: 246-247; 1903: 178, Pl. 1, fig 22. Plate index: 178. T.L. Indonesia (Sumatra), is remarkably similar.
Description
Wings virtually unmarked. Note their distinctive metallic blue/purple colour. The subcosta is dark black-brown and the wing margins are the same. The antennal bases are simple & the scape is filiform with short cillia. The thorax is dark brown and dorsally the abdomen is dark grey brown.
Underside not closely examined but a pectoral collar was not noticed.
This morphospecies was thought to be the male of the similar Coptobasis sp. 4 It may be Cydalima violalis Hering 1901.
