Description
Crocidolomia pavonana Fabricius is distinguished by a large scale-tuft near the base of the FW costa. Its widespread nature and its variability may indicate a sp. complex. Note the small neural spots where the veins reach the HW margin.
Crocidolomia sp. 1 has larger conjoined orbicular spots and the HW has a broad purple-brown margin.
Crocidolomia sp 2 is very much less distinctively marked
Life History
Larva known as the ‘cabbage cluster caterpillar’. A pest of brassicas and other crucifers (cabbage, broccoli, Chinese cabbage) (Brassica rapa chinensis and B. rapa pekinensis). The pekinensis group includes; pe-tsai, celery cabbage & napa cabbage and the chinensis group includes bok [pak] choy. Also Cajanus cajan chickpea (Leguminosae) and Gossypium spp. (cotton) (Malvaceae). A pest of cabbages & Chinese cabbage in Sulawesi (Sembel, 1990).
