  • syn. Crocidolomia sinensis Caradja, 1925, infrasubsp. (Shaffer et al., 1996)

Description

A brown sp. with the FW median fascia as the only distinct marking. The sp. varies considerably in the prominence of the darker area of the rear of the FW median fascia. That fascia is usually serrate distally. The HW is greyish brown with darker veins. This group of dingy moths are comparatively large for pyrales and can be easily mistaken for noctuids. The specimen photographed by David Fischer is not as distinctly marked as the typical sp. but illustrates the large tufts of hair scales found on the post-basal area of the FW of the males.  We support the view that the genus probably contains more spp. than the three currently recorded from SE Asia (RTS 1994: 175).
