Taxonomy

Daulia sp. 1. This morphotype from Sabah is in the Schulze Coll. and illustrated in Wang & Speidel (:183) and Kim Bae & Byun (2012: 440-441, figs 1,3,4) as Daulia afralis Walker 1859 but as it does not resemble the holotype in the Oxford U.M.N.H., we are treating it as an unidentified Daulia sp. nr. Girtexa [Daulia] argentuosalis Swinhoe, 1890b: 286.

Description

Many of the specimens involved are not in a very fresh condition. The mottled fulvous orange wings are adorned with silver metallic scaling. They present as a rather sombre fulvous species with silvery lines. Note the elongate abdomen and large exposed valvae of the male. Schulze (2000) taxon #622 ‘as Daulia afralis’ HSB Taxon # P133 in the BRL morphoseries. Several authors illustrate this sp. as D. afralis but their specimens do not match the holotype. Amongst the incorrect identifications are Kim et al. (2012) and Wang & Speidel (2000: 183). Kim et al. (2012: 441-442, figs. 3 & 4) recorded this morphotype as Daulia afralis from Korea, they re-describe the moth and illustrate the male and female genitalia. See also Wang & Speidel (2000: 183) for an illustration of this morphospecies also as Daulia afralis. Daulia argentuosalis is very similar but differs subtly in its patterning. Daulia afralis has similar patterning but is a much more brightly orange colour.
