Taxonomy
The female holotype of Glyphodes marginalis Moore, 1877: 618, pl. LX, fig. 15 is from the South Andaman Is.
- syn. Dausara amethysta Butler, 1879: 563 (Yoshiyasu 1995)
- The male type in the BMNH is from W, Malaysia (Malacca).
- Removed from syn. with D. talliusalis Walker, 1859 as a good sp. by Yoshiyasu (1995: 97).
Description
Wings silvery white with broad purple wing margins with brown purple markings typical of the five named Dausara spp. The spp. have distinct FW postmedian line (PML) profiles edging the purple areas of the FW. The pale sided abdomen is pale brown or greyish as is the thorax which laterally, is covered by long white tegulae. There is minor sexual dimorphism in all the Dausara spp. in the median band width of the FW, but the most obvious difference is that the HW tornus of G. orionalis Walker is very protruded. Some males have specific scent organs, such as very large hair-pencil tufts on the foreleg tibiae in D. marginalis Moore Yoshiyasu, (1995: 101 fig. 8C & 8F) and the different underside FW scent patches of marginalis and talliusalis. The PML in D. marginalis and latiterminalis is distinctly irregular (almost finely serrate) but in latiterminalis it runs almost straight whereas marginalis shows a distinct bulge posteriorly. Yoshiyasu, (1995) gives a key to Thai spp. and both male and female genitalia.
