Taxonomy
The holotype of Ambia caeruleata Hampson, 1893: 179, pl. 174, fig. 29) is from Sri Lanka (Pundat) comb. n. to Drosophantis Meyrick, 1935 (Shaffer et al. 1996).
- syn. Ambia cyanealis Hampson, 1903. TL Sri Ceylon [Sri Lanka], Matale. Syn. n. (Shaffer et al. 1996);
- syn. Drosophantis corusca Meyrick, 1935 [1930-1936]: 546-547. Syn. n. (Shaffer et al. 1996). The syntype is from Taiwan (Sinten, Taihoku)
Ambia caeruleata (Hampson, 1893) is the genotype of Drosophantis Meyrick, 1935 [1930-1936]: 546.
Description
A handsome bluish black sp. with a blue irridescence the wings are crossed by narrow rather white antemedian and post media lines. The FW has a large cream or white discocellular spot. See RTS (1994): 169, pl. 27, fig.16. Cymoriza? sp. 18., an unnamed lower montane specimen in the MfNH Berlin from Sulawesi Utara, Gunong Ambang N.P., is very similar, but lacks the FW white spot and has white termenal bands on both pairs of wings.
