Taxonomy

The holotype of Eschata gelida Walker, 1856: 133 is from Bangladesh Sylhet.

Description

A striking sp. with FW with a white and golden satiny appearance and a speckling of darker grey scales especially towards the termen. There is a grey dotted subtermenal fascia and a sharply angled discontinuous brown median line. There is a minor variation in the extent of darker proximally colouration. The HW is dark grey with a white termen and fringes. The head is whitebut the thorax and abdomen are mainly dark grey-brown. A segment near the abdomen base is ochreous. Photo of same specimen as RTS (1994). Apparently thinly scaled as the dull fawn veins show on worn specimens. Eschata sp. 2 is much less distinctly marked.
