Similar to H. cinerea Warren, 1892 and H. suffusalis (Walker, [1866] 1865) in patterning but a rather dull sooty brown, mainly lacking the violet sheen typical of many Hemiscopis spp. Schulze (2000) taxon #562.

Specimen 10ANIC-09887 DNA sequenced in BOLD.

Life History

Foodplants: H. suffusalis feeds on Dipterocarpaceae and Phyllanthaceae, but H. purpureum (Inoue) and H. violacea (Lucas) feed on Thymelaeaceae. Both Phyllanthaceae & Thymelaeaceae produce similar alkaloids.
