Taxonomy
Kalimantan Barat, 85 miles above Pontianak. The male lectotype of Striglina castaneata Hampson, 1914:109 from Singapore designated by Whalley (1976:54) is in the NHM (Mi7290) (genitalia slide #13319).

Description
A red-brown species with the thyridid reticulation picked out with darker brown. Largely devoid of distinctive markings. The sub-marginal fascia is reddish.
Similar Species
S.tibiaria Walker is similar but the genitalia are very different. Three sspp. of castaneata are named: Ssp. castaneata Hampson 1914, India, W. Malaysia, Singapore, Sarawak, Brunei. Ssp. alineola Chu & Wang, 1991, China. Ssp. synethes West, 1932, Philippines. This ssp. is paler and may be larger than the others.
