Description

A small to medium sized, orange-brown species, with small strigillate markings. There is a diagonal line crossing both wings which runs from the FW costa close to the apex giving rise to an indistinct branch to the centre of the tornus. It then continues to the inner margin and continues on the HW to the inner margin. The HW has an indistinct postmedian line which loops across the HW post median area. Superficially similar to S.fidelia Whalley, 1976 (which is a much brighter red colour) and to S. cuticula Whalley, 1976. There are probably three sspp. Whalley (1976:74) gives a key to two of these: Ssp. dactylica; Brunei, Sarawak, W. Malaysia, PNG. Ssp. blaesa Whalley, 1976:75 from Sulawesi (Gg. Tampoe) in the NHM (Mi7296) (genitalia slide #13675) is identical to the nominate ssp. in colour and pattern and can only be distinguished by genitalia. Ssp. 1 unnamed in the NHM (Mi7296), Sulawesi (Dumoga Bone NP, Danau Mooat) (Shaffer, 2008 Unpubl. data).
