Dichocrocis sp. 16
- Family: Crambidae
- Subfamily: Spilomelinae
- Genus: Dichocrocis
- Distribution: Singapore, Sabah.
- Habitat: Mangrove vegetation, 0m.
- Wing Length: 8mm
Taxonomy
Dichocrocis sp. 16. Specimens similar to Dichocrocis frenatalis Lederer 1863d: 448 from Sabah (Sandakan).
Description
A black and yellow sp. with banded patterning very similar to Dichocrocis sp.14 but with much broader dark submarginal bands. It differs from D. clytusalis Walker 1859d [non-Bornean] in having having continuous black ante-median and post-median brown-black bands. However it has a small punctal spot proximal and close to the discal spot of the FW. This spot is present in D. bilinealis Hampson, 1896 but is missing in the D. frenatalis holotype. The D. pandamalis Walker 1859e: 999, holotype, has discontinuous bands.
Life History
Reported as one of the few Lepidoptera in rehabilitated mangroves near Sabah (Sandakan). By Chung et al. (2018). Jiang et al. (2000) refer to a Dichocrocris [sic] chorophanta as an important component in mangroves of Yingluo Bay of Guangxi almost certainly a misident but still interesting! This sp. seem to be one of several similar spp. reported from Mangrove woodland both in Sabah and Singapore.
