Conogethes parvipunctalis, Inoue & Yamanak 2006: 86-87 was separated from C. punctualis (Guenée 1854) by Inoue & Yamanak 2006: 80-91. The male holotype from Japan, Ryuku Is. (Hatsuno, Amami ôshima) is in the BMNH. Twenty one paratypes were selected.

Many collections have this sp. mixed in with C. punctiferalis.

Description

Very similar but but slightly smaller than C. punctualis Guenée 1854 [partim.]. However all the spots are smaller especially the HW discocellular spot. Inoue & Yamanaka (2006, figs. 14,17,17a) illustrate the male and female genitalia. In comparison to C. punctualis the male eadeagus is shorter. In the female the 8th abdominal segment and the apophysis posterior is a little shorter and the apophysis anterioris less thick with a shorter ductus bursae. The corpus bursae is usually ovate but irregular in size as in C. punctualis [partim.] and C. pinicolalis.

Inoue & Yamanaka (2006): 88, give a table of contrasting characteristics of Conogethes punctiferalis [partim.], C. parvipunctalis and C. pinicolalis.

Life History

Unknown to Inoue & Yamanaka (2006).
